Monaco, 3 October 2025 — The Offroad Club Monaco (OCM) proudly sponsored the second edition of the Italian Sport Day Worldwide, held on 29 September 2025 at the Yacht Club de Monaco. Organized by the Embassy of Italy in Monaco under the presidency of H.E. Ambassador Manuela Ruosi, the event took place in the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco and a distinguished audience of figures from sport, culture, academia, and entertainment.

The theme, “The Diplomacy of Sport: A Tool for Dialogue for the Well-being of the Future,” served as a powerful reminder of sport’s unifying and transformative role. The evening highlighted an exceptional sporting achievement — the first UIM World Record for long-distance jet ski powered 100% by bioethanol, set by Dr. Massimiliano Mordenti, pilot of the Monegasque Powerboating Federation and co-founder of the OCM.
A Record Rooted in Sustainability

Dr. Mordenti presented his record as a symbol of determination and environmental consciousness, underscoring the importance of prioritizing sustainability over raw speed or power. Achieved on 15 September 2025, the world record was officially recognized by the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM).
This achievement was made possible with a FlexFuel-converted jet ski, featuring an innovative anti-spill refueling system designed by engineer Andrea Pezzini, who was thanked publicly during the event.
Displayed in the Ballroom of the Yacht Club de Monaco, the jet ski captivated guests and officials alike, sparking conversations about innovation and environmental responsibility in sports.

As Dr. Mordenti expressed:
“The record achieved was not only a sporting challenge but also a message about sustainability.
We chose bioethanol and renounced a more powerful jet ski because we believe that sport must contribute to building a future that respects the environment—within the limits of today’s available technology—while keeping our eyes firmly on the future.”
He continued:
“My wife and I, members of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation for many years, wish to thank H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco and Mr. Olivier Wenden, Vice-President and CEO of the Foundation, as we have learned so much about what each of us can do to protect the environment, the seas, and the oceans. Even a simple gesture, such as picking up a plastic bag from the ground and putting it in the bin, matters.
My family and I have lived on the Rock for many years, and from the very first day, we were struck by the inscription on the street drains: ‘The sea starts here.’ I am convinced that if each of us, in our own way, takes small actions, together we can create a powerful and universal message for the common good.”
Sport as a Bridge for Dialogue

The event was masterfully hosted by Dr. Diego Nargiso, Senior Sport Manager at Politecnico di Torino and honorary member of the OCM Technical-Scientific Committee. A former tennis champion, Dr. Nargiso emphasized how discipline and respect for rules shape athletes and fuel achievements such as Dr. Mordenti’s pioneering record.
Dr. Mordenti added:
“I had to prepare in an extremely serious way, following all the required formalities. I thank President Rossi for his support throughout this entire period… There’s an example that I find quite fitting: As children, we all loved eating popcorn. But in reality, popcorn is just a simple grain of corn that, once transformed, becomes popcorn. In the same way, one by one, together, we can achieve great things,
My wife Erminia Fezia Mordenti also supported me in all the technical and regulatory aspects of the Monegasque Powerboating Federation and the UIM, which were essential for accomplishing a world record — a very serious undertaking. I joke, of course, as I don’t consider myself a professional athlete, but respecting regulations remains fundamental. The principles of sport are respect for the rules, as well as for the safety and health of the entire team — without whom nothing would have been possible.”
The Wake of Monaco: Beyond the Record

The record forms part of OCM’s initiative “The Wake of Monaco,” a project dedicated to creating new “off-road” routes and experiences rooted in sustainability, cultural exchange, and respect for the environment. Inspired by the legacy of Prince Albert I and the commitment of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, the initiative promotes collaboration among universities, research centers, and international sports federations.

The Offroad Club Monaco continues to strengthen its role as a promoter of sport, culture, friendship, and environmental sustainability, in partnership with Monegasque, Italian, and international institutions. The next milestone will be on 21 November at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco, during the academic workshop “History and Cultural and Natural Heritage of the Mediterranean: From the Maritime Republics to the Technological Revolutions of the Present.”
A Night of Reflection and Recognition

The evening also featured the screening of an institutional video by MAECI and a panel discussion titled “Let’s Move Together for Our Health,” moderated by Professor Andrea Carteny (La Sapienza University of Rome). Alongside Professors Giorgio Meneschincheri and Francesca Romano Lenzi, the panel explored the intersection of sport, health, and sustainability.

Other esteemed guests included Marlène Nidecker (Peace and Sport Foundation), Marco Simone, Max Biaggi, Gianmarco Casiraghi, Francesco Castellacci, and professional cyclists Matteo Trentin, Jonathan Milan, and Davide Formolo. The evening concluded with a heartfelt tribute to Maestro Giorgio Armani, who once stated:
“In sport, what I love is commitment.”
