The Money20/20 Europe 2024 event kicked off in Amsterdam with two action-packed days filled with insightful sessions, groundbreaking announcements, and engaging experiences, reflecting the theme "Human X Machine." Scarlett Sieber, Chief Strategy & Growth Officer, welcomed attendees, emphasizing the synergy between AI and human innovation.

Day 1 Highlights

 

The first day featured several high-profile announcements. Papara, in partnership with Drivewealth, will soon enable its 20 million users to invest in U.S. stocks. Bunq teamed up with Mastercard to streamline money management for its 12.5 million European users. VISA celebrated a milestone, issuing its 10th billion token and highlighting the $40 billion in e-commerce revenue driven by tokenized payments. Token.io launched Hosted Pages to enhance Pay by Bank experiences, starting with Prommt. EY unveiled a survey revealing that 48% of EU banks see compliance budgets as a top investment priority amid new payment regulations.

Key sessions included a panel moderated by Techleap's Constantijn van Oranje, where industry leaders discussed the global expansion of fintech and AI's role in addressing client needs. Mistral AI's CEO, Arthur Mensch, and Headline’s Jonathan Userovici shared insights on Europe’s AI ecosystem, advocating for human oversight in AI deployment. Microsoft’s Patrice Amann and NVIDIA’s Kevin Levitt explored AI’s transformative potential in financial services, stressing the necessity of AI investment for competitive advantage.

The day concluded with a forward-looking keynote featuring ING’s Marnix van Stiphourt and Deutsche Bank’s Joanne Hannaford, who discussed AI's evolutionary role in banking. Starling’s CEO, Raman Bhatia, highlighted the bank's tech-driven growth and customer-centric approach.

 

Amidst the business, attendees enjoyed unique experiences like mind-controlled pint pouring and custom scent creation, making Day 1 of Money20/20 Europe an engaging blend of innovation and interaction.

Day 2 Highlights

 

The second day of Money20/20 Europe 2024 continued the momentum with an array of thought-provoking sessions and a special focus on startups driving fintech innovation. Six transformative startups were showcased:

- Flexvelop: Offers flexible financing for business equipment.
- Brite Payments: Provides instant, secure payments via open banking.
- Kore Labs: Digitizes financial product management for reduced risks.
- Nomyx: Facilitates asset tokenization using Web3 and AI.
- Velexa: A multi-asset investing platform enhancing financial literacy.
- NALA: Reduces fees for cross-border payments to Africa.

In addition to the startups, several major announcements were made. Thredd and Discover Global Network partnered to create new card programs, while Rabobank and Fourthline teamed up to offer AML and KYC solutions. NIUM and Remote announced a collaboration to enhance cross-border payroll transactions, and IBM released a study urging the adoption of generative AI in banking.

Key sessions included insights into the crypto market from Kraken's Kaushik Sthankiya and CoinW’s Sonia Shaw, who discussed the evolving landscape of digital currencies. Kimberly Ofori advocated for sustainable investment models, emphasizing the resilience of “Camels” over high-risk “Unicorns.” Former French President François Hollande delivered a keynote, emphasizing the importance of AI development in education and democracy. Additionally, Pav Gill, known for his whistleblower role in the Wirecard scandal, introduced his new venture, Confide, aimed at enhancing corporate transparency.
